Canaport LNG Terminal

Canaport LNG Terminal - Saint John, New Brunswick

Canaport LNG Ltd., a partnership between Irving Oil and Repsol, awarded a $117 million engineer-procure-construct contract to a partnership led by Peter Kiewit Sons Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. The contract was for the Canaport LNG (liquefied natural gas) Terminal Jetty located in Saint John, New Brunswick.

The job includes the fabrication and installation of 16 marine support jackets, 12 roadway and pipe support trestle sections, an LNG receiving platform, 10 mooring hooks, four berthing fenders, an access gangway and eight catwalk structures. Total structural steel weight is 7,500 tonnes. Two-thousand cubic metres of concrete form the road and platform deck. All structure placements, pile driving, rock drilling, grouting operations and site services support will be accomplished using crane barges.

This LNG terminal was the first constructed in Canada. Commissioned in 2008, the Canaport LNG Jetty spans 300 metres offshore and is equipped to receive liquefied natural gas from the largest tankers in the world. The complexity of this job was heightened due to the extreme tidal conditions in the famous Bay of Fundy region, which has the largest tides in the world.
