Terra Nova Integrated Swivel Turnaround - Marystown, Newfoundland
The Terra Nova Integrated Swivel Turnaround Project was a $75M contract that was of critical importance to the Client, as well as the Newfoundland Offshore Oil Industry. The Project involved a 3 month at Quayside repair and upgrade of some of the key systems on board the Terra Nova FPSO, one of three producing installations located offshore Newfoundland.
The Terra Nova FPSO arrived at the Kiewit Marystown Fabrication Facility on June 26, 2012. Immediately, work began on the installation of temporary services hook-up as well as the permanent works installations. Staff, mobilized from six Kiewit Districts, worked in an integrated approach with the Client team to successfully manage and execute the work. In the three month project execution period, nearly 360,000 craft work hours were expended to successfully perform the work scope. Daily project updates and schedule performance was critical to the overall success of the project, and was achieved through a strong Project Controls team, in addition to the Integrated Project Schedule that captured all of Kiewit’s and the Clients activities. A strong focus on Mechanical Completion throughout the project was important to the Vessel sailing from the facility, in preparation to reconnect and begin producing, with zero Kiewit punch list items.
Kiewit’s ability to mobilize a strong and cohesive project team from various Kiewit Districts was fundamental for the success of the project. Working closely with the Client project team through the planning and execution phases, Kiewit was able to effectively perform 360,000 craft hours during a 3 month execution period. The Client ultimately recognized Kiewit’s performance, and lack of carry over or punch list work, through issue of the maximum performance recognition bonus.
